Please open the windows after you enter your car and do not turn ON the
air-conditioning immediately. According to a research done, the car dashboard, sofa, air freshener emits Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin (carcinogen- take note of the heated plastic smell in your car). In addition to causing cancer, it poisons your bones, causes anemia, and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure will cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer may also cause miscarriage.
Acceptable Benzene level indoors is 50 mg per sq. ft. A car parked indoors with the windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene. If parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F, the Benzene level goes up to 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level... & the people inside the car will inevitably inhale an excess amount of the toxins.
It is recommended that you open the windows and door to give time for
the interior to air out before you enter. Benzene is a toxin that affects your
kidney and liver, and is very difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff.

That's pretty scary that the AC emits this. I think most people do turn on the AC immediately.

The AC has nothing to do with any benzene emissions.
Also, what was the point in attaching those A/C diagrams? it has nothing to do with how benzene is supposed to be created >_<

So whenever we get in a car we should turn the air conditions off first? It's scary man.I think we need to educate more people about that since there are a lot of cars nowadays.
I think he means that we need to circulate the air in the car first before we close all the windows eg open all windows and drive to let fresh air in before on ac

This is a very helpful and informative post!...I've never really think much about this until I've come across your post..starting from now on, I'll practice not to turn on my car's AC..instead I'll let the windows down so fresh air can circulate first before turning on the AC.

As to car air fresheners, there's precious little information available about the ingredients, though one European study found that some household air fresheners emit measurable amounts of benzene. It's not inconceivable that some car air fresheners do, too.
I am not an expert and was just passing on info given to me, but I think it simply follows the fact that it does not work properly if the windows are open. To this end, it is probably no difference.
